The Exhibition
"Fantasmi e Spiriti del Giappone" exhibition takes visitors on a journey into the mystical and enchanting world of Japanese folklore. The exhibition showcases a stunning array of artifacts, from ancient scrolls to intricate sculptures and masks, which offer a captivating insight into the country's spiritual beliefs and customs.
Divided into several sections, the exhibition explores the diverse types of spirits and ghosts that are said to inhabit Japan, as well as the fascinating rituals and customs that have evolved around them. Visitors can also delve into the role that religion and spirituality play in Japanese culture and how these beliefs have influenced art and literature.
Working closely with Benjamin Lacombe and L'Ippocampo, Laura Micalizzi Design developed a concept that reflected the mystical and enchanting nature of Japanese folklore. She carefully selected colors, textures, and materials that would evoke a sense of wonder and intrigue, while also ensuring that the design was functional and practical.
Customer Journey
Guests exchange the ticket purchased online with the “Tegata”. With this they can cross the red bridge and are granted access to the otherworldly. The journey starts with The Yuki Onna room, an outdoor snowy setting. A door to a haunted house allows access to a labyrinthic path through various stories and rooms. For each story there is an explanation and an effects room. At the end of the journey guests walk through the Fox corridor, under sixteen Torii arches one smaller than the other for perspective effect. They are then able to access the giftshop, themed by the Ikiryo story. Throughout the journey scents, sounds and special effects such as wind, smoke and interactive lights surprise those who walk through.

A blend of exciting special effects, fun surprises, colorful lighting, and immersive storytelling set the stage for memorable experiences, perfect for capturing selfies and sharing online. The careful design of each environment ensured that these pivotal moments were carefully crafted, allowing guests to carry a part of the exhibition with them in their memories.
